Hi, My name is Dr. X Li. I am a licensed clinical psychologist, father of two, and 2nd generation immigrant. I offer evidence-based, personalized individual therapy for adults. My approach is transparent, collaborative, and culturally-informed.

I’m traditionally trained in CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy) and my therapy has been mostly focused on integrative approaches in the past. Through my decade long practice of psychotherapy, supervision, and training, as well as my own personal therapy and growth, I have adapted to become a primarily ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) practitioner.

The concepts and interventions of Acceptance of Commitment Therapy deeply resonate with me in both my personal and professional life. I am continually astounded by what it provides for my clients and how it shapes, informs, enriches, and deepens my own experience. Through our work together, I hope to share this amazing perspective; not only to alleviate the various mental health symptoms and ailments you experience, but to fundamentally change the way you engage with yourself and the world around you, in the here and now.

FAQs

How are therapy sessions conducted?

Therapy will be conducted online via secure video conferencing. Currently in-person sessions are limited.

Do you offer sessions in Mandarin?

I do speak Mandarin fluently but I am a 2nd generation immigrant, and my preferred language is English. Although I can conduct therapy in Mandarin, I may have to use English during sessions to clarify terms I don’t understand or cannot communicate effectively in Mandarin. I do not speak Cantonese.

What is ACT?

ACT, or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, is an evidence-based theoretical orientation that focuses on building awareness of our innate desire for control and changing our perspective on our lives through this lens. Through this awareness, we are then able to change the way we relate to our thoughts, our emotions, and the people and circumstances around us in flexible and adaptive new ways.

Do you take insurance?

Currently I do not take insurance. However, you may be able to request reimbursement from your insurance provider or supplemental insurance provider. I am able to provide a superbill for my out-of-network clients if that helps. I am an in-network provider for Lyra.

If I do not have insurance, how much are private pay sessions?

I charge $225 per session for a 50-minute session. If this is a financial burden for you, please let me know and we can discuss this further.

What are some resources outside of therapy you recommend?

If now is not the right time for individual therapy, I recommend my course on Sound Psych: Break Free from Chronic Worry. It’s a great introduction for ACT and applies it directly to helping people manage their anxiety and worry.

What type of clients do you work best with?

I’ve found the clients who are a good fit are ones who may have tried therapy in the past or CBT skills on their own but did not find changing their thoughts or coping skills to be that helpful. People who are searching for meaning and purpose in their lives after experiencing sudden shifts in their lives because of great (a new child) or terrible (loss, trauma) events also tend to benefit well from my approach. An appreciation of often irreverent humor even in dark times always helps of course.
